Okada, Economy, Comfort or XL: choosing for the trip you are making

Seats are the obvious question. Luggage and journey length are the ones people forget.

Every ride class available on your route is priced together, which makes comparing easy. What the list cannot do is tell you which one suits the trip you are actually making. That part is worth thinking about for ten seconds.

Okada

One passenger, no luggage beyond a bag you can carry, and traffic you want to get through rather than sit in. Through central Accra at peak time a motorbike is often genuinely the fastest thing on the road.

It is the wrong answer for a suitcase, for two people, for rain, and for a long intercity run. It is also the wrong answer if you would not be comfortable, and that is a legitimate reason on its own.

Economy

An everyday saloon car seating four. This is the default for most journeys across town and the one most trips end up using.

Comfort

Newer cars with air conditioning, seating four. The difference is worth paying for on a longer journey, in the middle of the day, or when you are arriving somewhere you would rather not arrive from a hot car.

Premium

Top-rated drivers in premium vehicles, seating four. The usual case is a client, an airport arrival you want to go smoothly, or a trip where the vehicle is part of the impression.

XL

Room for six and their luggage. This is the airport answer for a family, and the answer whenever the number of bags is larger than the number of people.

The mistake almost everyone makes once

Booking for the passenger count and forgetting the luggage. Four adults fit in an Economy. Four adults with four suitcases do not, and you will discover this in a car park with a driver who cannot help you.

The seat count is shown against every option, but bags are not, so it is worth a moment's thought before you tap. If you are hesitating between two classes for a long trip, take the bigger one. The difference in fare is usually smaller than the difference in the next hour of your life.

Put it into practice.

Every idea on this blog starts the same way: two points and a price you see before you commit.
