Book the Kotoka run before you need it.
Schedule a pickup for Kotoka International Airport with terminal and flight details attached.
Leaving is a timing problem. Arriving is a finding problem.
An airport trip is not one journey booked twice. The thing that goes wrong on the way out is not the thing that goes wrong on the way in, and Topsy treats them separately.
- Heading to the airport
- The risk is the Accra road between you and the terminal. Schedule the pickup for a time that leaves room for it, and the search for a driver starts ten minutes before that time rather than at it.
- Landing at the airport
- The risk is finding each other in a crowded forecourt. Book with the terminal and the flight reference attached, so the trip carries which flight it belongs to instead of a guess at a time.
- Sending somebody else
- A trip can be shared with whoever is waiting at either end, so they can see the car, the plate and where it has got to without ringing you mid-flight.
- Doing it for a company
- Airport runs for staff, clients and visitors can be raised against a Topsy Business account and billed to the company, including for a guest who has no Topsy account at all.
Booking ahead, step by step
-
Set both ends of the trip
Pickup and drop-off, plus any stop you need on the way. The route is measured from those points, so the fare reflects the trip you are actually taking.
-
Choose the time instead of now
A scheduled trip takes a date and time in the future rather than looking for a driver immediately. That is the whole point of booking an airport run the night before.
-
Pick the vehicle for the luggage
Every option available on your route is priced at once, with how many people it seats. Two people with three suitcases is a different booking from one person with a laptop bag.
-
Add what the driver needs to know
Booking in the Topsy app lets you attach the terminal and the flight reference to the trip. On the website you can leave pickup notes and gate information, which is what a driver reads when they are trying to find you at a barrier.
-
The search starts ten minutes out
Topsy begins looking for a driver ten minutes before your scheduled pickup time. You are not holding a car hostage for the hours in between, and you are not starting from scratch at the moment you need to leave.
A booking that repeats itself
- Daily or weekly
- A scheduled trip can be set to repeat, either every day or on the same day each week. It is one booking with a series behind it, not a reminder to book again.
- Between two and twelve trips
- A series covers a run of occurrences rather than an open-ended standing order, so it ends on a date you chose rather than quietly continuing.
- Cancel the whole thing at once
- Cancelling a series cancels every future trip still waiting in it, and each one is refunded rather than left as a credit you have to chase.
- Or put it on the company
- Staff and visitor airport runs on a Topsy Business account land on one invoice in cedis with a receipt behind each trip. Spend limits and approvals can be set per person.
Pick for the bags, not just the people
The most common airport mistake on any ride app is booking for the number of passengers and forgetting the number of cases. The seat count is shown against every option before you choose.
These are the options currently offered in Accra. Which ones appear depends on your route and on what is available at the time.
- Okada
- One passenger on a motorbike. Quick through traffic, and the wrong answer for a suitcase.
- Economy
- An everyday saloon car, seating four.
- Comfort
- Newer cars with air conditioning, seating four.
- Premium
- Top-rated drivers in premium cars, seating four.
- XL
- Room for six and their luggage. This is usually the airport answer for a family.
Finding the right car in a full forecourt
- The driver's name, photo, vehicle and number plate are in your app before they arrive
- A four-digit PIN confirms the car is yours before the trip can start
- The trip can be shared with whoever is meeting you, and the link expires on its own
- Gate information and pickup notes travel with the booking
- You can message the driver in the app while the trip is live
Kotoka sits inside Greater Accra, and drop-offs run across the region, including Tema, Madina, Adenta and Ashaiman. The coverage pages list the towns currently served.
Before you book
How far ahead can I schedule?
Any time in the future. The search for a driver starts ten minutes before the pickup time you set, so the booking sits quietly until then.
Can I attach my flight number?
Terminal and flight reference are attached to the booking in the Topsy app. On the website the booking carries pickup notes and gate information instead, which is what the driver reads when they arrive.
What does an airport ride cost?
It is priced from the route like any other trip, and the fare is shown before you confirm. On the website that quote is held for ten minutes while you decide, and re-priced in front of you if it lapses.
What if my flight is delayed?
Cancel the scheduled trip and book the new time. Cancelling before a driver is on the way costs nothing, and the search only begins ten minutes ahead of your pickup.
Can somebody meet me who does not have the app?
Yes. Share the trip link with them and they can follow the car, the plate and its position without an account. The link expires on its own.
Can my company pay for it?
Yes. Airport runs raised on a Topsy Business account are billed to the company, including trips booked for a client or visitor with no Topsy account.
