The driver is making the journey either way. When a second passenger is going the same direction, the same fuel, the same time and the same road carry two fares instead of one, and both pay less than they would alone.

- Your price is your journey, with the sharing discount taken off it. It does not go up because the other passenger is travelling further, and you are quoted before you book rather than after a match is found.

- A car is only offered your booking if collecting and dropping you adds little to the journey it was already making. A match that added twenty minutes to somebody else's trip would have saved nobody anything.
- Nobody is bumped for a better match
- Once you are in the car you are in it. Seats are held the moment you join, so a second booking cannot take the seat you were given.

Topsy looks for a car before it looks for a driver
If a car is already out with a free seat and going your way, you join it and it is on its way to you. If none is, your booking goes to a driver like any other, and yours becomes the car other people may join.

You are picked up in order
A shared journey is a sequence of pickups and drops, not one of each. Your driver has the order, and you have your own place in it.

You are set down at your own destination
Your fare, your PIN, your receipt and your rating are yours alone. Sharing a car does not mean sharing a booking.
You are told how many, never who.
People sharing a Topsy car are strangers matched by route, not friends travelling together. You can see how many people are in the car and where you are in the pickup order. You are not shown their names, and they are not shown yours or your address. Your driver has the list, because they have to collect everybody.
