Kitchens that are actually open
The worst part of ordering food is not the waiting. It is placing an order with a kitchen that closed an hour ago and finding out when nobody answers. Topsy Food puts that information on the card before you tap it.
- Open or closed, on the card
- Every store keeps its own opening hours, day by day, including kitchens that run past midnight. A store can also mark itself closed on the spot when the kitchen is full, and it stops appearing as available straight away.
- Nearest first
- The list is ordered by how close a kitchen is to the address you are ordering to, with the ones you have saved as favourites held at the top. A store outside its delivery range is shown as unavailable rather than quietly missing.
- An estimated window, not a promise
- The time shown is worked out from the distance to you and the preparation time the kitchen sets for itself, and it is given as a range. Topsy would rather show you a range that holds than a single number that does not.
- Search the dish, not just the shop
- Search runs across store names and the items on their menus, so typing what you want to eat finds the kitchens that make it.
- Ratings from people who ordered
- A rating can only be left on a delivered order, and it covers the kitchen, the items and the courier separately. Nobody rates a restaurant they never bought from.
Seven states, all of them visible
-
Placed
Your order reaches the kitchen's dashboard with the items, the address and the total. It gets an order number in the form TPSORD followed by its id, which is the reference for everything after this point.
-
Accepted, then preparing
The kitchen accepts the order and starts cooking. Acceptance is also what starts the search for a courier, so the two run in parallel rather than one after the other.
-
Ready and dispatched
Topsy times the courier request against the preparation time the kitchen set, so a rider is not sitting outside for twenty minutes and food is not sitting on a counter going cold.
-
Out for delivery
Once the courier has collected the order, their position appears on your map. It appears at this point and not before, because a courier's live location is not yours to watch while they are still finishing another job.
-
Delivered
Handover is confirmed with a four-digit code, and the order is stamped with the time it was delivered. Every state before this one is kept with its timestamp, so the order history is a record rather than a memory.
Four ways the app protects the order
- One kitchen per order
- You cannot mix items from two stores into one cart. Two kitchens means two preparation times, two collection points and a courier sent on an errand nobody priced. Start a second order instead.
- The cart re-prices itself
- Before checkout every line is checked against the price the kitchen is charging right now. If something moved, the cart moves with it and you see the change before you pay rather than after.
- A promo code is re-checked
- Change the cart and the code is validated again. If it no longer applies, it comes off in front of you instead of failing silently at the moment you tap pay.
- Cancelling has a clear window
- An order can be cancelled while it is still Placed. Once the kitchen has accepted it, food is being cooked and it can no longer be pulled back. If the order was already paid for, the full amount is returned to your Topsy wallet.
Every line on the bill has a name
A food order is not one number. It is four, and the app shows them separately in the cart before you pay, not in a receipt afterwards.
Each order can also be downloaded as an invoice PDF, which matters when someone else is paying for the meal.
- Items
- Each line at the price it is being sold at today, quantity by quantity.
- Delivery
- Worked out from how far the kitchen is from your address, and shown before you commit.
- Tax
- Calculated on the order and listed on its own line rather than folded into the items.
- Discount
- Any promo code you applied, subtracted where you can see it happen.
- Total
- The four lines resolved into one figure, in Ghana cedis (GH₵).
Pay how you normally pay
- MTN MoMo or Telecel Cash, approved on your handset
- A debit or credit card
- Your Topsy wallet, if you keep a balance
- Cash to the courier at the door
Mobile money asks for the network as well as the number. If the two do not match, Topsy stops the charge and says so, rather than leaving you staring at a prompt that never arrives.
Before your first order
Can I order food on this website?
No. Topsy Food runs in the Topsy customer app, and this page exists to explain it rather than to take an order. Rides and Topsy Send deliveries can be booked here on the web.
Where does Topsy Food deliver?
Across Greater Accra, including Tema, Madina, Adenta and Ashaiman. Which kitchens you see depends on how close they are to the address you are ordering to. The coverage pages list the towns currently served.
Can I follow the courier?
Yes, from the moment the order is collected. Until then the order shows its state and its timeline instead, because the courier has not started your leg of the journey.
What if the food never arrives?
Handover is confirmed with a four-digit code, so an order marked delivered has a record behind it. If something is wrong, raise a support ticket and it enters the same queue the mobile apps and the Topsy team work from.
Can I rate the meal and the courier separately?
Yes. One form after delivery covers the kitchen, the individual items and the courier, and each rating is recorded against the right party.
I run a kitchen. How do I list it?
Register the store once and orders, couriers and payouts all run from the same dashboard. The merchant page explains what registration asks for.
Topsy Food lives in the app.
Install the Topsy customer app, and food, market goods, medicine, rides and deliveries all sit behind the same account.
