Carrying parcels alongside passengers

Topsy Send runs on the same network and the same driver pool as rides. If you drive or ride for Topsy, delivery work is available to you, and for many drivers it fills the parts of the day when passenger demand is thin.

The work is genuinely different from carrying people, and it pays to understand how before your first job.

The handover is the job

With a passenger, the person is the verification. With a parcel, the handover is where things go wrong or right. You are collecting from a named sender and delivering to a named receiver, and both ends carry details on the booking.

Read the package details before you set off. Size and nature of the item determine whether it fits and whether you should be carrying it at all.

What not to carry

If the item is not what was described, you are not obliged to take it. A parcel booking describes a category; if what is presented does not match, or you are uncomfortable with it, decline and report it. That is the correct action, not an inconvenience.

Timing works differently

A passenger is waiting and wants to leave. A parcel sender may not be ready. Deliveries reward drivers who confirm before arriving, particularly for a business sender who packs on request.

On the delivery end, the receiver may not be expecting you at that moment. The tracking link the platform issues helps, but a phone call as you approach saves circling.

Motorbikes and deliveries

For a single small parcel through central traffic, a motorbike is often the right vehicle, and courier work suits riders who would otherwise be limited to single passengers. Secure the item properly. A parcel that arrives damaged is a dispute, and disputes cost more time than the job earned.

Mixing the two

Many drivers alternate: passengers at peak, deliveries in the flat hours. Because both run on one platform, one app and one earnings history, there is no switching cost. That is the practical argument for doing both rather than specialising early.
